So the other day, I took my MacBook Pro runs a little slow to load, programs and applications. For work, I tend to four rooms / workstations in addition to using VMWare Fusion with Windows 7 64 bit, CS4, and office. I normally do all the programs open at the same time I do 4GB of RAM for the moment there are lots of opening and closing applications.

With me, from mid-2009 MacBook Pro 17 ". This model came with a Hitachi 5400 RPM 500 GB hard drive, and after a little research on what Maxtor and Western Digital had to offer hard drives (and pointed to some inherent problems), I found myself on another Hitachi. (I should point out also that I had no idea what model of hard disk storage with my Mac, and has taken no decision on the basis know that) The model I chose to finally opt for a 500GB Hitachi Travelstar was 7200 rpm SATA internal notebook hard drive HD20500IDK/7K – Retail I ordered directly from Amazon. The disc was delivered to someDays, and so began the project.

The first step was to get my data, and because the only reason for the upgrade was for speed, I wanted to keep everything exactly as it is. So the question is how you want to move everything from one drive to another on a laptop? It's not as if I could just plug the new drive, and press Copy. So I ran to my local Best Buy and picked up USB to SATA 2.5 "external hard drive. (I have no intention of this part, however, and the ones I bought were$ 63.00) I would order Vantec NexStar CX NST-200S2-BK 2.5-inch SATA to USB 2.0 External Drive Enclosure (Black) cost less in the way of doing exactly the same and you save shipping costs.

Now there are two reasons to get an external hard drive enclosure will be. First, there is a procedure in which you can copy all your data on supply (which I'll explain how to do it), and two, it makes use of your old hard drive as external hard disk for data backup orStorage of additional products.

Well, now the only other elements of hardware that is needed is a step. 6 Torx and a mini-screwdriver (you can also order them, but they can be retrieved at any computer or hardware).

Be important if your external drive and speakers, you'll follow the instructions and place your hard drive in it and ordered it to your computer via the supplied USB cable. If you do, your hard disk utilityThe application should open (if not, then you will find it in Applications> Utilities). You want to select your new hard drive on the left, then the name of what you want to call it. I think there is something different, so confused that you do not. Just above where your new album called, you have the formatting. Choose "Mac OS Extended (Journaled), then click Delete. This mode allows the player to that of your new Mac OS install bootable

If the readerbe formatted and deleted, you must copy all your data. want to do this, you will use Carbon Copy Cloner. This software is extremely easy to use and best of all, it's free. If you open it, you should see it as well.

You want to choose your source drive, which is on your existing hard drive that came with your MacBook, and choose your target disk, which is the new drive. The default option is to backup everything, and you want to keep that attitude andClick the Clone button below. This process will last several hours, I took more than 8 hours. What it is literally the cloning your existing hard drive to your new. This will copy your operating system, you all settings, all documents and photos, everything. When this is done, you know that your existing hard drive, instead of being in his place, to turn from your computer, and everything will be exactly as it was when you turned off to remove the MacBookexisting hard drive.

Now we need to switch disks. It's easy, just follow these steps.

Remove the screws on the back of your MacBook as if.

Now remove only the 2 screws, as shown here. The 2 rear screws can stay where they are, and should not be removed to remove the hard drive.

Unplug the drive, you will not be necessary. Torx 6. Remove the 4 screws from your existing hard drive and screw the new hard drive.

Afterthat define the new disk back into your MacBook, close it all again, turn it on and you're ready to go. It's really that simple.

I noticed a considerable increase in load time programs such as VMWare and CS4 applications. The new drive is extremely quiet and does not seem to use much more power than the old.
